Anthropic buys Stainless to industrialise its SDKs
When the tooling vendor everyone shares gets bought by one player, the whole ecosystem feels it.
Anthropic announced on 18 May that it is acquiring Stainless, a 2022-founded startup (by ex-Stripe engineer Alex Rattray) whose tooling turns an API specification into maintained SDKs across TypeScript, Python, Go, Java and more, plus MCP server tooling.
The wrinkle: Stainless's tooling reportedly powered SDKs for OpenAI, Google and Cloudflare too. An acquisition that pulls shared developer plumbing under one roof is the kind of quiet move that shapes which platforms are easiest to build on next year.
